Share Your Experiences with E-Patients*
The Medical Library Association (MLA) is sponsoring a symposium, E-Patients: The Techno Cultural Revolution of Health Consumers. It will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 10am - 4pm. The symposium is being held in conjunction with the 2010 Annual Meeting of MLA to be held in Washington, D.C. One of the morning sessions, "Librarians in the Trenches," will focus on two potential roles for librarians with regard to e-patients. Janet Schneider, Chief of Library Service at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa, Florida will be addressing the librarian's role with the public. Taneya Koonce, Assistant Director at the Eskind Biomedical Library, Vanderbilt University Medical Center will be addressing the role of the librarian working behind the scenes.
We would like to have brief scenarios from other institutions describing their experiences with these roles. We have a form<http://www.hshsl.umaryland.edu/epatientsymposium/share.cfm> located on the symposium website (URL) where you can enter your name, position, institution and a brief description of how you either work with e-patients or work behind the scenes with the resources/records they use. The deadline for submission is April 1, 2010.
Selected scenarios will appear on the symposium website after being reviewed by the "Librarians in the Trenches" sub-committee. Please consider sharing your experiences.
