The SBMC Human Resources Department has updated the position announcement
that was sent earlier in the week.  Apologies for cross-posting.






The Director of the Medical Library at Saint Barnabas Medical Center leads
the overall operations of the library to provide users with access to the
most current and reliable medical information, reference assistance, and
research services. Saint Barnabas Medical Center is the flagship hospital in
the RWJBH system. In the past few years RWJBH has moved the system forward
by entering into affiliation agreements with Rutgers University to form a
strong partnership for scholarly research and medical education. Rutgers
medical students, physician assistant students, and residents now do
rotations at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and at other RWJBH hospitals.
There is a new and exciting heightened interest in participating in clinical
research, quality improvement projects, and other scholarly activities.
Because of this new emphasis on research and education, this search for a
new library director is focused not only on finding a candidate with very
strong essential medical library leadership and management skills, but also
on finding someone who has a true passion for, and experience in, supporting
and encouraging scholarly activities, research, and education.  The
candidate will be aware of library best practices and evolving trends for
new tools, library technology, teaching methods, and online resources. In
addition, the successful applicant will be someone with a proven ability to
work in a dynamic, evolving work environment, with a track record of
innovation, strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, and a commitment
to excellence. Past success in applying for and receiving grants for library
projects is a plus. Experience in developing innovative library programs,
particularly with regard to improving teaching methods, aiding in research
efforts, and innovations with technology are also important.  






Participation in and oversight of:


*	The library's reference services, including quick search requests as
well as complex literature searches, with proficiency in the major databases
such as PubMed, Ovid Medline, CINAHL, Nursing Reference Center Plus, other
EBSCO databases, Clinical Key, and Google Scholar
*	Teaching search skills and demonstrate how to use various online
*	Purchasing and managing the library's print book, ebook, and
ejournal collections
*	Create and maintain the library's website using the LibGuides
content manager
*	Cataloging and circulation of print books through the library's
Mandarin library system
*	Managing remote access to the library's online resources through
*	Managing interlibrary loans of articles and books through DOCLINE
and OCLC
*	Managing the library's journal subscriptions through the library's
subscription agent
*	Work closely with Nursing Education on Magnet related activities
including assisting with nursing research and presenting to nurses in the
Nursing Residency program
*	Develop and manages the library's budget, including timely payment
of invoices and tracking expenditures throughout the year
*	Supervise a staff of one full time librarian and part-time library
technician (recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor, provide recognition,
and annually evaluate)
*	Keep records of library usage and service statistics, including
literature searches
*	Become a member of various committees including Graduate Medical
Education and the Nursing Inquiry Council. Look for other committees to join
that are involved in research and quality improvement projects 
*	Remaining abreast of medical library, technology, and
teaching/education trends by participation in professional conferences,
classes, serving on committees
*	Give presentations about the library's resources and services
*	Do outreach to explore ways to assist users in the research process
(how to choose a journal in which to publish; do research on, then choose
and purchase a reference citation product to facilitate research; how to
create a poster presentation; do an online survey and ask users what
resources or technology that they need or want); look into great information
that can be gleaned from searching "grey literature."
*	Become aware of and join resources such as listservs which have
valuable information about innovative things that other libraries across the
world are doing (Listserv examples:  MEDLIB, HSLANJ, NY NJ MLA listservs)




*	Master of Library Science or Master of Information degree from an
ALA-accredited institution




*	1-2 years of supervisory experience in a medical or allied health
library setting
*	Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) certification
through the Medical Library Association, preferably at the Senior or
Distinguished level
*	Strong and positive interpersonal, communication, and teamwork
*	Ability to successfully manage employees
*	Ability to multi-task and to successfully prioritize projects
*	Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.

Since 1865, Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC), located at 94 Old Short
