Equity and Open Knowledge*

Stony Brook University Libraries invite all to its annual Open Access
Symposium. This year hosts two keynote speakers. The morning keynote
speaker will be Alexis Clifton. Alexis, Senior Instructional Support
Specialist, from SUNY Geneseo will be presenting on the past, present, and
future of the open education movement. The afternoon keynote speaker will
be Catherine Mitchell. Catherine is the Director of Publishing & Special
Collections at California Digital Library, University of California. She
will be presenting on how high-profile negotiation efforts can converge
with institutional open access goals, library publishing, and OA policy
initiatives.

The program also includes three panel discussions. One will be examining OA
publishing challenges and successes. Another panel will discuss Open
Educational Resources (OER) initiatives on various campuses. The final
panel will be a hybrid presentation/panel discussion on open source
software and data management environment. Panelists hail from Weill Cornell
Medical School, Touro College, Penn State, Princeton University, Stony
Brook University, among others. The event is free of charge.
