Hello everyone! I hope you are all well.
NNLM MAR just opened a funding opportunity in partnership with Library Juice Academy for LIS students (priority given to those in PA, NY, NJ, & DE; early career non-health sciences library professionals may also be accepted if space permits) to take an Intro to Health Sciences Librarianship course online for free in October and be paired with a medical librarian mentor (this could be you!) for the duration of the course. Details are below and attached, including the link to the (brief) applications.

Dates: October 5-November 5, 2020: “Introduction to Health Sciences Librarianship” course and virtual shadowing mentoring program run concurrently.


For participants:

Asynchronous with weekly assignments due but no scheduled course meetings.

1-2 hours per week for the mentoring program. This includes scheduled phone or web conferencing meetings, at times determined by each participant and mentor pair.

Selection criteria:


First preference will be given to prospective students living in or enrolled in an LIS program in the Middle Atlantic Region of the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM MAR - Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania), second preference will be given to students living in and enrolled in an LIS program outside MAR. Remaining unfilled slots will be offered to early career applicants who do not have health sciences librarianship experience and are living or working in MAR. Applicants from diverse backgrounds will receive priority in the application review process.


Preference will be given to health sciences librarians working or living in NNLM MAR (Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania).

The instructors for the course and coordinators of the virtual mentoring program are Natalie Tagge (Head Librarian, Podiatry Library, Temple University Health Sciences Libraries) and Gregory Laynor (Senior Librarian, Information Services, Scott Memorial Library, Thomas Jefferson University).
