The D. Samuel Gottesman Library, Albert Einstein College of Medicine seeks an Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Assistant.

Position Summary
Under the direction of the Head of Access Services, Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery staff provides an essential service that is valued by users for obtaining materials not held in the D. Samuel Gottesman Library. This includes the receipt and return of interlibrary loan material, and providing service of the highest quality.

Position Responsibilities

*         Process ILL transactions using several software systems, including ILLiad, OCLC, WorldShare, WorldCat and DOCLINE.

  *   Prepare materials for delivery to library users and to borrowing libraries using multiple delivery systems, email PDF attachments, Odyssey, Article Exchange, UPS and USPS.

*         Track overdue materials and recalls items from users and borrowing libraries. Trace lost material via UPS or USPS.

  *   Monitor activity of service for timely response to all ILL requests, delivery to Einstein users and to borrowing libraries.
  *   Ascertain the validity of requests and eligibility of patrons.
  *   Report problems and complaints related to service to Head of Access Services.
  *   Troubleshoot ILL hardware and software problems.
  *   Provide coverage at Circulation Desk as needed.
  *   Perform Circulation duties:  check-in and check-out material to library patrons, verify patron eligibility for library services, check library holdings and availability in integrated library system/OPAC.

*         Explain ILL and Circulation policies and procedures to patrons.

*         Must be available to work nights and Sundays according to operational needs.  Will include day shift or night shift (until 12am or 10:30pm) when coverage is needed.

  *   Willing to maintain skills through active participation in appropriate continuing education activities

*         Performs other duties as assigned.




Minimum Qualifications

  *   1-2 years' related experience required.
  *   Library experience preferred.
  *   Some college preferred.
  *   Flexibility to work nights and Sundays, as needed.


Skills and Competencies

  *   Experience with interlibrary loan software and applications (ILLiad, Odyssey, Article Exchange, EFTS, IFM), integrated library system (Millennium), and databases such as PubMed is preferred.
  *   Excellent attention to detail.
  *   Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational and strong customer service skills.
  *   Experience working in a team setting to meet tight deadlines.
  *   Ability to work independently, organize and set priorities, work efficiently under pressure with accuracy and maintain confidentiality.

*         Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff and patrons.

*         Good written and oral communication skills.

*         Experience with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word.
