*Head, Resources Acquisitions and Organization Librarian*
Columbia University Health Sciences Library (HSL) seeks an experienced,
innovative and enthusiastic librarian to provide leadership in the
development of its collection and to manage the acquisition and
organization of library resources in all formats. Responsibilities
includes but are not limited to: provides leadership and coordinates all
operational aspects of the HSL’s Library Resources Department, including
planning, coordinating, developing, interpreting, and implementing
library’s policies and procedures of acquisitions, cataloging, physical
preparation, and electronic preparation of purchased resources. Oversees
the management of a materials budget in consultation with the Collection
Development librarians, and the Library Director, supervises 4 FTE
involved in all activities of the Unit. Oversees online acquisitions and
serials control. Maintains integrity of HSL’s records in the Online
Catalog. Develops and provides appropriate statistical reports to
support acquisitions and fiscal activities on regular basis and on
demand. Plays a key role in negotiating vendor contracts, maintaining
effective vendor relations and assessing performance. Provides support
to the Collection Development librarians in evaluating of license
agreements and fees for electronic subscriptions. Keeps current with
technology developments outside Columbia and within other Columbia
University Libraries. Represents the HS library on relevant Libraries’
wide committees and taskforces. Actively participates as a member of the
HSL team in new endeavors.
*Qualifications:*
MLS degree required and a minimum of 5 years of experience of
acquisition and organization of library resources. Requires significant
knowledge of integrated library systems how it pertains to library
cataloging and acquisitions; knowledge of purchasing and managing of
electronic resources. Attention to detail, fiscal responsibility,
experience and ability to manage staff in a union environment. Excellent
organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.
Salary commensurate with experience.
