Is recruiting for an:  Acquisitions Librarian 

 

 

New York Medical College, one of the nation's largest private health
sciences universities, is located in beautiful Valhalla, Westchester
County, New York. The Health Sciences Library (HSL) serves more than
4500 faculty, employees, students, residents and fellows of the
University. The HSL supports users at all levels and locations in the
School of Medicine, School of Public Health, and Graduate School of
Basic Medical Sciences onsite and remotely using web based and proxy
server technology.

The Acquisitions Librarian effectively manages the daily operations of
the acquisitions unit and the associated expenditures for library
resources to include: monographs, educational media, government
documents, and relevant serial or non-serial materials. The incumbent
communicates effectively with faculty, employees, residents and students
to ensure necessary input relating to the collection needs and
strengths. This person manages vendor contacts as well as serves as an
effective member of the reference/information services team. In
addition, the incumbent completes analyses of resource use; recommends
new purchases or innovative ways to procure materials; develops grants;
and completes projects for external sources of funding. Staff also
coordinates SERHOLD and OCLC records projects as appropriate. 


Required Experience

Candidates must have an ALA-accredited Master's in Library Science as
well as: a minimum of two years experience in an academic health
sciences library environment; excellent communication skills,
demonstrated initiative; excellent basic computer skills; commitment to
service and ability to work effectively as part of a team; and ability
to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, team-based environment.   

 

Eligibility and membership in the Medical Library Association's Academy
of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) is highly desirable along
with knowledge of SERHOLD and OCLC records and functions.  

Salary

$40,000 minimum
