The New York-New Jersey and Upstate New York/Ontario Chapters, MLA are
very pleased to announce plans for the upcoming NY-NJ/UNYOC '99,
their joint meeting to be held October 17-19, 1999 at the Gideon-Putnam
Hotel, located in Saratoga
Springs, NY.
It seems that it wasn't all that long ago that we thought a memory
typewriter was a gift from the heavens. And now, well, here we are sitting
in front of our high end PC shouting, "Faster, faster." Where do we go
from here? That will be the focus of our meeting as we go from present to
future; learning cutting edge and action oriented information covering
changes in librarianship and library operations as we head ever onwards to
"01-01-00" and beyond.
As previously announced Dr. Laverna Saunders, Dean, Salem State College
Library, Salem, MA and Barbara von Wahlde, Associate Vice President
for
Libraries, University of
Buffalo, Buffalo, NY will be our keynote
speakers. In addition, there will be panels, lunchtime roundtables, and a
Library Management Forum, as well as three CE courses. For CE info, see UNYOC's Meeting Continuing Education
Page.
During our meeting you will have time to meet with vendors and exhibitors
to learn of their latest products and services, plus time to meet, greet
and network with old friends and new. And don't forget
Sunday's kickoff Exhibit Hall opening and our Welcome Reception at
the nearby National Museum of
Dance. We're also looking forward to
our gala Dinner on Monday night when we will hear from Margie Ingram,
Director of Special Programs, The
HUMOR Project, located in Saratoga Springs.
So Save the Dates and look for your registration packet later this summer.
See you in Saratoga!
Lynn Altstatt, panelist, New York Academy of Medicine
SATURDAY TOUR: Signature Tour of Saratoga Springs: On Saturday afternoon,
October 16th, take part in a "Signature Tour of Saratoga Springs." At
2:00 pm, we will be boarding a deluxe motorcoach for a unique tour. This
two-hour tour will introduce us to the area and give us a taste of the
local history. The tour will depart from and return to the Gideon Putnam.
A fee of $15.00 will be paid at time of departure.
SUNDAY TOUR: Sunday, October 17th, it's SHOPPING! After a breakfast and
fashion show, we will head on to - where else but - the Outlet Malls.
After an afternoon of discount mania, the bus will return to the Gideon
Putnam in plenty of time to rest our weary "soles" before heading out to
the Opening Ceremonies of the Exhibit Hall and Kickoff Welcome Reception
at the National Museum of Dance. The $20.00 fee includes breakfast. All
those interested should meet in the Gideon Putnam lobby at 9:30 am. Those
needing transportation from the Best Western to the Gideon Putnam on
Sunday morning should send an email message to orourke@umdnj.edu to
reserve your place on the van.
